Success Academy was founded by a team of current and former educators with experience in public and private K-12 education seeking affordable online educational options for their children, some of whom had been diagnosed with disabilities impacting their in-person studies. At some point in their children's academic careers, these educators opted to homeschool their children or look for quality online accredited programs. However, many online options were not approved by their states' Department of Education which limited their courses' ability to be transferred into public or private schools throughout the country.  Further, courses offered by both public and private schools were often limited, particularly elective and AP courses, and limited their students' preparation or awareness of careers post graduation. Thus, they created Success Academy Online as a solution.
